Update 23: End in Sight

Sometimes I’m Really Stupid:

OK, this will be a very quick update because everything is coming up at the same time.

First off, I don’t know why I keep picking numbers and saying that that number is my end goal. I thought I could tell this story in 150K, then 170K, then 180K… I’ll be lucky if I can get it under 200K words! I am almost there. Only 5 chapters and an Epilogue are left to go.

Over the previous 22 updates I have been pretty laid back. Happy with making 5-6000 words a week. Totally cocky that I would finish the book in the first week of November. Well, it’s the second week of Nov. and I’m still going. I’m mad at myself for being so nonchalant and being happy with 1000-word days. At the same time, I am also glad that I didn’t feel pressured for months, but I’m feeling pressured now.

Word Count

The “goal” is 6500 words a week (ha ha ha, dumbass). I got in 4 sessions this week and made 16640 words this week. Thank god. I hammered my way through 7.5 chapters this week.

I still feel that I can get it done by deadline. But my though that I can get the whole book revised and finished in only ten weeks… ha ha… though to be honest. I did actually give myself 24 weeks to get the revisions all done.

Speaking of revisions, I actually need to write a very long essay on that subject where I outline my entire revision plan. Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it for two weeks but I’ve yet to commit to writing it. So, that is going to eat into my writing time for next week.

Goals

At this point I am no longer really thinking about word counts or any of that. I have chapters that need to be finished. Luckily, these chapters can be short. The end of the book is meant to feel like its all happening at the same time, with each of the chapters overlapping a little and repeating some bits from different perspectives because its all taking place in less than an hour.

It’s insane and overly ambitious but it’s a hell of a ride.

Anyway… I have so much on my plat e I just can’t deliver much on these posts right now. I know I normally tell you what’s happening in the chapters I just wrote and then I tell you what’s going to happen in the chapters I’ll be writing next. The thing is… I don’t want to give away all the ending. Suffice, all of the separate story lines have come together in the final location and everyone is playing their parts. It’s crazy.

Also… if you’re judging me on how short this post is… let me tell you that I just sat at my desk for the past 9 hours and hammered out 5088 words of my novel (this was after I discovered that half of a chapter got deleted and I had to remember those 1000 words as well… so actually 6088 words today). This post might be sub-1000 but it’s still at the end of a LONG day.
