Heading into the Final Act
Closing in on the Final Act
Its been a really good writing week. I only did three days of writing but managed the best word count so far. But before I get to word counts, this is the intro para. Welcome to my thesis diary, this is the 20th update as I take my thesis classes for my MFA.
Last week I made a mistake and actually forgot my own outlining. I complained about how I needed to move a chapter to later because it broke continuity. But when I opened up Scrivener, I realized I had ALREADY moved the chapters around.
So my entire outro last week was just me being dumb!
Wordcount! 19-25 October
The goal is 6500 a week, and I’m almost to deadline. I have about 6 weeks.
I knocked out a lovely 10,764 words, bringing the WIP to 140,374 total words. I am just about to get into the final act with each of the storylines. I’m super excited about it all.
Week’s Work
I finished chapter 28, 30, and 33. Most of this was Rune’s POV as he infiltrated a castle and brought a bunch of Imperial Criminals to justice… or to put it more interestingly: He delved into a horror show of a castle and fought a bunch of undead and fleshwarping wizards.
I will admit that despite the large word count on these chapters, I do feel like I really cut and chopped the whole sequence to make it a lot more streamlined. The book is already quite lengthy and I’m trying to make it more streamlined BEFORE I get to the revision phase in December.
Still, the original version of the castle would have taken place over four or five chapters, and would have had lengthy exploration and twists and turns. It would have been a slower burn with a lot more creep factor and a lot less run and gun. But messing with story structure and trying to tie together multiple stories into a single narrative, all while keeping the word count a little leaner… yeah.
School Work 26-Oct to 1st Nov.
This week is going to be an interesting week. I have to render my entire novel into a synopsis (sigh), workshop it, and then next week finalize it. It’s going to be a headache. Otherwise I want to try and get a good 10K again.
I was considering doing NaNoWriMo again, and finishing my novel on there. But… I should be able to finish my novel is FAR less than 50K… so do I really need the hype of NaNo to get me through the end of the book? I don’t think I do. I’ll debate it for the rest of the week.
Ok… I’m setting up my Nano if you want to add me as a friend I’m under Dathar.
Keep Me Accountable!
So… goal of 6500 words, but really aiming higher… want to get to act three by the end of next week if not sooner.
