Slower Progress
Journal 131: 14-20 October 2024
This will probably be a short one, then again, I’ve said that before and then delivered over 2000-words of material.
I have a little more of Graza’s story, as I had one more session with the character this past week. Chamber is still waiting as that game rotates. Two weeks on, two weeks off. In the case of this month, three weeks off. I won’t return to him until Nov 2nd.
The month is flying by, far too fast and I have a new addiction to the Solo RPG 2d6 Dungeon. So, that has been eating my mornings off from work. I have been asked about finally running my game.
I’ll talk about all of this in the next sections. Here we go.
October Flying Fast
This is one of my favorite months and it is just flying by. Way faster than normal.
At least that is how it feels. I’m kind of mad at myself for not using this month and last to get DUSK started. I’m disgusted with how complacent I’ve become with my status quo. And at times, I’m happy with the things I AM accomplishing.
Even if those accomplishments are playing through a solo RPG or writing some gaming material, drawing a map, or just reading through my comics and keeping up with current events.
If anything, I’m more disappointed that this is the first October I haven’t watched a horror movie every day. Though in my previous journals I complain about the fact that since I watch horror movies year-round, it is difficult to find stuff I want to watch again.
However, I can say that the Korean movie Mission: Possible is absolutely hilarious and worth a watch if you have access to it. I would tell you my favorite moment but I don’t want to spoil. Suffice, when you get to the scene where our male lead is facing a massive jacked Russian dude, and doesn’t understand any Russian.
2d6 Dungeon
This game is a blast, the main game is a dungeon delver where you take a character through 10-levels of dungeon. You roll and produce the map as you go and then fight and puzzle through each of the rooms.
But a month ago they produced a second book for the game called 2d6 Realm, where your character is awarded lands and you get to build a realm. Also, mapping out your homestead and then exploring the lands around you.
I bought both books at the same time, so have combined them into one story. Where my character was awarded his lands after he finished the first level of the dungeon. So, he is exploring his lands, claiming forests and fields.
And every month he needs to pay his taxes, so I end up having to go back into the dungeon to find enough gold to keep my treasury full enough to keep my lands.
I’ve played four sessions and will start my fifth after I finish this journal.
In that time, I have leveled my character to 3rd, fully explored two floors of the dungeon, and passed two months on the surface claiming/ exploring my lands. Just thinking about it I want to finish this up.
Graza’a Further Story
We ran through more of the Fallen Temple.
First, we discovered that another group had followed us into the dungeon. They were beaten up and we decided to parley. We managed to meet without violence and concluded that none of us had found anything spectacular. At least, nothing worth killing over.
As such we made a pact, the temple was built in a ring. They would continue around clockwise, and we would go back to counter-clockwise. When we meet on the other side, we will share information and perhaps exchange goods.
We pushed through another six fights in this game. Most of them with ease until we mistakenly chained the last two fights together.
Chained Fight
Graza once again proved to be a sturdy dude. I jumped into the second encounter to hold it off while the rest of the group handled the main. While my companions dealt with a room full of shadows, I jumped on two vampire spawn.
I unleashed a couple abilities and smashed one of the vampires apart in a single round of combat. We prevailed, but only after taking a terrible beating. Our necromancer would have died, but stayed alive due to a magic item. And everyone was wounded, so we decided to spike the doors shut and take a rest.
All told, we went through 13 encounters in a matter of an hour, maybe two at most. That’s a pretty hefty toll to take on a party. But so far… other than losing the skeleton warrior, all of us are still fighting strong.
However, the fights are escalating quickly, and I have a feeling that the next session will slow down quite a bit.
Anyway, TO DO
This next week has a lot going on, between extra doctors visits, my own and where I’m the driver. Early voting opens, so I will have to see when I can get into there. Today is already mapped out for most of the day. I need to sort comics, play 2d6 Dungeon, and do house chores. So, yeah.
On top of that, I have people asking me if I’m all talk and no action with this campaign I want to run. I’m still unsatisfied with my options. I want to run it in person, as I don’t want to deal with Roll20.
Not that I have a problem with the website, but more I don’t want to learn how to use it. I feel like it will take me even longer to feel comfortable with the interface. Plus, I spent a lot of time building maps, handouts, and other materials to use in the game. I won’t be able to transfer my maps into roll20.
Also, I wanted to add some more players to my group.
I love that we play online, because we play more often and a lot longer. But I miss rolling dice and seeing people, and socializing where everyone gets a chance to speak and people aren’t constantly pausing because the app talks over people.
Anyway, I have a lot of reasons to be hesitant and excuses to put it off. We’ll see how it works out. In any case, I need to convert things to the 2024 rules, change up my house rules, and I need to type it all out so I can share it with players. A lot of work.
Outro
With the way things are going I might have to skip the journal for next week. We’ll see how it shakes out.
Thank you for reading this far and sorry that this series of journals is less and less about writing, but at least it’s somewhat still about stories, character, and all of that.
Have a great day.
