Resolution 2024
Journal 110 11-31 Dec. 2023
And another 3 weeks went by again. Though in this case it had Xmas in the middle and New Years tonight. It’s understandable that things would slow down significantly.
I’m still a little angry with myself, but I don’t have time to be angry. The day job starts its inventory tomorrow morning and I’ll be too busy this week to even think, let alone hate on myself.
This blog is meant to look back over the year and to think ahead to what will happen next.
Resolutions?
I don’t really do the resolution game anymore.
I have my PT and row machine and yeah, I plan to hit both of those multiple times a week.
I need to start the Dusk book.
I want to run a D&D campaign.
Revise the Daeria book.
Hunt for an agent.
Make an effort to learn Korean.
Cook more often and go out to eat more.
Build at least four models and paint some miniatures for myself.
Its more a to-do list than a resolution to change things, though several of them involve changes to my lifestyle and self.
And Looking Back?
This would be where I go through and list a bunch of my accomplishments to make myself feel better for the whole year.
But I don’t think I really need to do that… at least not here on this blog.
Writing down all of my accomplishments here almost feels like bragging. Or worse, calling for attention. Both things I hate to do… or more accurately, I hate when I find myself doing that…. or when people say that’s what I’m doing.
Suffice; bills were paid, Daeria rough draft was finished, models were built, and food was had.
As I sit here thinking about it… a lot got done.
I might have fallen off in the blogs, not quite committing to having one every single week, but as soon as I start the next book, I’ll be back to weekly word counts to hold myself accountable.
What’s Next?
When do I start Dusk?
I’ve been trying to pick up an extra day at work… the main day I actually write this blog, though I would still have time to write this and then go to work. If I do pick up Sundays at the shop, I would then turn those Sundays into the game day for D&D.
The short version: I would lose Sundays as the day I did most of my novel writing if things worked out. But since this rests on the shoulders of convincing my co-worker that he wants those Sundays off… I won’t hold my breath.
I am torn though.
I really think I should do the revision of Daeria first and then start Dusk. I think it will come down to whether or not I can get my D&D game started, since it also takes place in Dusk, I might want to delay starting the novel.
Or vice versa, delay the game for the start of the novel.
I barely slept so I might be out of my mind right now?
Last 3 Weeks
Besides the holidays I haven’t done much.
I did a bunch of inventory prep at work. I read a few chapters of a good history book, I read a couple cookbooks, I watched about three k-dramas, and found a dozen new YouTube channels to start going through.
Had two D&D games come to different ends (sort of)
One game ground to a halt as we defeated the enemies and had a semi-happy ending. After a year of play and over 50 sessions it was all resolved. The other game had a SECOND Total Party Kill (TPK) and would have imploded but the DM convinced us to roll up our 3rd characters, and that we’d stay in the same campaign, but move to a new area and different storyline.
I will admit that the TPK was fairly epic, but something which I called in advance. I was the last character alive and I almost… like by a single roll… almost killed the BBEG and would have made it out with the bodies of my fallen friends.
Almost.
Media and Outro
Normally I would now spend a few hundred words talking about k-dramas, comics, and other such. But I think I have enough on my plate today.
Next week, I’ll try for the true first blog of the year and I’ll talk about my media consumption. Maybe I’ll bring down my list of watched movies… I think I’m close to 300 for this year, it was helped along when found out my Letterboxd actually counts Doctor Who Serials as movies.
Meaning December has been a 50 “movie” count, and that’s with two foreign shows not even being on the app so I got shorted.
Anyway, I have to do a ton of things today… so off I go to accomplish my goals and decide when I start the next novel.
Be well.
And thanks for reading this far.
