Update 10 Aug 10-16
Crap Week
Not going to lie, this week was another that was not so great. But I do feel that things are turning around as I write this post. I am getting geared up for the finals in my other class this term. So, I have a lot of papers to write and a lot going on. These are not excuses. They are merely there to illustrate that my word count for the week is FAR higher than what I post here.
Of course, this post is all about the WIP, The Ashlands, so we only count the word count on THAT and not the notes, the essays, or even these blog posts. I hope that this last week has been better for everyone else. I know that the situations out in the wider world are far from great right now. We have a lot of problems in the world, but this space is meant to be an escape from all of that.
Gaming update:
So, I really do miss my weekly gaming posts. I never did finish up the last few games of my TORG game, but that was mainly because the session notes for three of the 5 games were lost. Meaning I had no details. Also, since the Pandemic hit, I have not run games. Very sad I know. However, I have been playing in a bunch of D&D games. Its just that those games are run by other people and I don’t know if it would be fair for me to tell someone else’s story on my page.
I have been reading up on other games and when my groups get back to playing in person, I might run some other games. I don’t know if I will get back to TORG, which is sad because of all the money I have invested in the system. I have been working on some ideas for a Shadowrun game, I have the beginnings of a story, but I’m less than pleased with the current (6th edition) of the rules. I might end up running a 5th edition game with a bunch of the newer rules worked in. But that feels like I’m giving myself extra work… and point blank I don’t have a lot of time for extra work. I should be writing a novel, right?
Anyway, I just wanted to bring up gaming because that was a mainstay of this site for more than a year, and because gaming is as important to me as writing.
Word Count:
Las week was crappy for word count. Again, multiple essays and four workshops. The WIP has grown, I finished the rough of chapter 16 with the edition of another 1663 words. The WIP is sitting at 64,369. I MUST get back to writing multiple days a week. While I’m well into where I need to be for the next classes, I am not where I want to be personally.
Goals:
I would like to be done with the rough draft by the 1st of December (or whatever day my thesis 3 class starts)… I think it’s the 1st. That is 16 weeks from now and I believe that my novel can be completed in 150,000 words. That’s only 5350 words per week.
RIGHT. Here and now… my goal is 6000 words per week, every week until the damn thing is done! Then we go back and revise all the garbage. Next week I have to write my final, which is already partially done, other than that single assignment, everything else is pretty much done.
Outro:
Yeah I know this are really short. Last week I waxed all personal and open this week I’m kind of keeping it together. But I do think I want to start adding a topic for discussion to these posts. So maybe I’ll start doing comic, book, or movie reviews… just short little paragraphs about what I’m reading currently or whatever. I’ve been getting back into music a lot lately. I decided to replace my ancient iPod with a newer device. A non-apple product because I loathe iTunes. I will admit getting used to the UI after over a decade with iPods, has been an issue. But I love the fact that I have all of music on one device. I also have a lot more room to grow since I went from an iPod with 120g space to 400g of space.
