April’s End
Journal 146 6-27 April 2025
It’s been a while.
I knew it might be, but even I’m a little surprised with how the last few weeks have gone.
To sum up, from the 5th until today the last two weekends, included my birthday, and then Easter. Both of which had me very busy and running around.
I debated changing this blogs schedule back to Mondays. That might make it a little easier to keep up with as my Sundays are becoming a bit busy. Of course, as I write this I’m looking at my schedule for this Monday and I’ll be running around all morning.
When will I write again?
I seem to be putting all my energy into creating characters and playing in games. But not running my own games or writing any fiction. I haven’t even worked on world building or used other procrastination methods.
Most of my free-time has been devoted to k-dramas if I’m being honest. I’ve fallen behind in my comics, regular readings, and any other hobby as well. I have occasionally made time to paint, and as I write this I’m reminded that I need to get back in the chair and work on some projects.
Only Thing to Talk about….
Are Comics and K-dramas the only thing I can talk about?
I mean this blog has strayed so far from its origins.
Year one was about college and getting into my master’s program.
Year 2 included a weekly game session story that was half fiction and half meta-story, and I was silly enough to publish the rough drafts of several term papers. After that I concentrated solely on my writing progress over the course of two more novels. Adding in journal material, my weekly life with the progress reports.
And now we’re here with only my weekly life… except I no longer publish every single week. I’m still surprised that so many of you still stop in here to see what I’m doing.
So, the only things I can talk about are comics and k-dramas.
Comics
I’m still over a month behind in my reading, despite taking days to read 20 or more comics at a time. I think I need to greatly cut back on my reading list.
The only thing I can really talk about is Free Comic Book Day which is next Saturday. It’s the busiest day of the year for most stores, and definitely at mine. Though there is a chance that this year might be the last year of FCBD. With the uncertainty of the sale of Diamon Distribution and all the behind-the-scenes issues.
We just don’t know what is going to happen. Hopefully it does continue on for a long time to come, but if not, we’ll make this one memorable.
Dramas
Where do I start. Looking back at my last post I was just starting Judge v Judge and Cute Programmer.
Let’s start with the latter. This show might have put me back off trying more c-dramas. Cute Programmer starts very…cute… (sorry) but the last third of it is a bit of a misery. C-drama episodes might be slightly shorter and move a “little faster.” But coming in at 20, 30, and even more episodes….
They pack a lot of extra drama, but also slow down some of the better parts of the show. The relationships have more hurdles, more issues, and while that could be great; in the case of cute programmer it became a bit of a downer to get through.
Judge V Judge
Great show, but not quite as advertised. I thought it would be more romcom, and it was not at all. It was dark, with some brutal cases coming up before these judges and a deep conspiracy. Still good, but not what I expected.
But I was finishing those shows weeks ago… what have I done over the last three weeks?
I completed 6 more shows and started two others.
Potato Lab:
Story of a corporate money man who takes over a company and has to go assess a Potato Lab to see if it’s worth keeping open. That sounds like garbage, but it’s a romcom with the corporate suit falling for one of the lab workers, who just happens to be an ex-employee of his company and who he needs to fire from the lab.
Art of Negotiation
Story of a M&A team at a conglomerate trying to save the company as billions of dollars of debt is suddenly called in on them. ML is a favorite actor of mine, so watched this. The story is pretty good, a lot of backstabbing, politics, and maneuvering. I don’t know if it’s aiming for a season 2, as most k-dramas don’t, but the ending left me a little angry.
Trauma Code: Heroes on Call
This show was just amazing. It’s short at 8 episodes, each under an hour. ML is practically a super hero and I watched the entire show in a single day because it was that enthralling.
$1 Lawyer
Watched on HULU and you all know how much I hate HULU (if you read last post?)
ML is one of my favorite comedic actors (as in he is usually in comedies) this show lived up to his normal comedic beats where it could have easily had a decent romance but he never gets with the girl. (I’ve watched 6 of his shows and only 1 has him get with the girl, 1 gets really close, and the rest are just teases). Great show about an ex-prosecutor who becomes an undefeated attorney who only charges a dollar for his work.
Awakened
Wow. Same ML as the above, but this time he’s a total badass police officer (and still funny). Story of an evil organization that experiments on children on an island, until one night nearly everyone on the island is killed. Several; of the children escape.
28 years later our ML is a detective who is put on a serial killer case where the victims all appear to kill themselves, but someone sends coded messages claiming he killed them. From there the show goes crazy as we slowly learn what happened with those kids on the island, why everyone died, and the fact that the people who ran the island are still operating on more children.
Must watch.
Dali and the Cocky Prince
I meant to watch this as a romcom to destress after finishing Awaken. But I chose wrong. This was more on the drama and less on the comedy side. Still a good show but not nearly as lovely as I wanted. Cute couple though. Still recommend, just don’t go in thinking its all sunshine and fun.
Ongoing Shows
I have started another k-drama along with Dali, this one supposed to be more fun, but also heavy on the drama. Jinxed at First. Guy encounters woman who has prophetic powers, she and her mother have been kept in captivity for most of their lives. Her captors drag her away from the guy, destroying his life. Going so far as to murder him (attempt he survives) and making it look like a suicide.
Our ML has years of bad luck and then our FL escapes her captivity and finds him again, this time she uses her gifts to erase his bad luck.
And if you think I’m spoiling a whole show, that is pretty much just the first 20 minutes of the first episode. Mostly.
My other show is Kamen Rider Geats. I’m thinking I might go back and rewatch some of my favorite seasons of Kamen Rider again.
And that was the last three weeks.
Let’s call it here, and I’ll try to get another post for next week.
